Join us for a meal and discover why locals and tourists alike love Wackers!Wackers has gained a reputation for excellent fish and chips, particularly the large haddock, which many declare to be the best in Scarborough. Diners rave about the freshness and quality of the ingredients, with the haddock sourced from the icy waters off Iceland. The mushy peas and chips are cooked to perfection, elevating the entire meal experience. Another highlight is the diverse menu, offering gluten-free options and a dedicated fryer to safely prepare meals for guests with dietary restrictions. Despite the many positives, some diners might find the busier hours less appealing due to crowded conditions. The peak times, particularly Sundays at 1 PM, can lead to longer wait times, which might deter those looking for a quick meal. A few customers mention that they would prefer a wider variety of desserts, although options like apple pie and hot puddings are currently available. Additionally, parking can be a hassle, with paid street parking necessary, which might not be convenient for everyone.
We were very surprised at this little place tucked away. Upon entering it was clean, friendly, organized and dog friendly. You won't find sticky tables or menus in this place and it's very reasonably priced too. We had the teatime special for £13.50. And we're served a beautiful piece of fresh well cooked Haddock, fresh well cooked chips and tasty mushy peas with a pot of lovely tea. We brought our dog in and she was given a bowl of fresh water and a bakers twizzlers treat to enjoy. We also bought her a large plain sausage as a treat, and the staff cut it up for her and served it in a bowl so it wasn't too hot for her to eat. They have a brilliant menu, with alternatives such as low salt and steamed potatoes instead of chips. They also have a gluten free option. It was nice to see staff polishing the cutlery after being washed before it was set back out. The toilets were clean and had no smell at all with baby change and disability friendly. The atmosphere is friendly, and not overstimulating. No bright lights, no sticky tables, no loud or intensive music and nice table settings and seating. It is a large restaurant inside for plenty of custom. And they also have a takeout menu if that's what you desire (obviously cheaper than the seated in option) It is a shame we live so far away because hands down the best we've eaten and been served by in a very long time.
Best fish and chips I have had in Scarborough the batter on the fish looked crispy but was light and tasty. Chips where cooked just right. Could not fault the service. Place is clean and tidy they are also dog friendly.
Ask ten locals where the best chippie is in Scarborough and you'll probably get all different answers. Nobody mentioned this one, which I just happened upon as I was out shopping. The first thing that attracted me were the offers, one of which, the £13.50 lunchtime special came with an enormous (supposedly medium-sized) haddock, chips, scraps, pot of tea and a slice of brown or white bread and butter. A decent-sized pot of tartare sauce was speedily supplied. Well I have to tell you that everything was sensational. The fish, frozen at sea off Iceland, was the freshest, flakiest, whitest piece of haddock ever, in a lovely light batter, the chips were beautifully cooked and the addition of a little bowl of scraps was a first for probably 30 years! Even more impressive was that the nice and strong pot of tea easily filled two cups, with extra hot water available on request. It was way better and about a third less expensive than Winking Willies, supposedly one of the top chippies on the seafront where I ate a couple of days ago. I'd planned on a curry, but I'm really glad I didn't. Family run, by the way, with the dad clearly in charge and a son working the till, among other tasks. According to my receipt, he was Debbie. It's perhaps a modern thing.
The best fish and chips in Scarborough really enjoyed it We had the senior special comes with orange juice, cup of tea, bread and butter and home made tartar sauce very tasty 10 out of 10 Very friendly staff
Myself and my family (party of 4) visited today as I had read they offer gluten free options, which I required. Arrived around 2pm and the place was pretty quiet so we got a good table. The restaurant was nice and clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Once I had ordered our food, I can only assume the manager or owner came over to explain that the gluten free meal would be cooked in a dedicated fryer and my dish would be served separately so no cross contamination. Very comforting they took this requirement seriously. All our food still arrived at the same time though which was good. My gf cod and chips with tartar sauce was absolutely delicious. Perfect batter and lovely sauce. Everyone enjoyed their meals, no complaints whatsoever. We would definitely come here again, no question. Unfortunately, the manager wasn't around to thank when we left so if you read this, thank you for a lovely meal. 😊
I have a severe Gluten,Dairy,Egg intolerance and too scared to eat out however I read online about this place and thought I would give it a go, on arriving they checked ingredients for me on anything I was unsure of we also had our 2 dogs with us and they let us take them into the restaurant, the GF is cooked in a separate fryer and the serving staff will serve the GF and the normal totally separate, my husband had normal I had GF mine came out first with one member of staff my husbands followed within seconds with another member of staff.the manager also checked in on me. Overall experience. Staff very helpful and go over and above. Prices.very reasonable so won't break the bank Taste . Absolutely 💯 white soft fish, chips do look pale but they are totally cooked and tasty even got GF scraps .. Gf vinegar provided, they also do other GF options and even cake. If your GF you won't be disappointed we will be back..
Popped in for a takeaway fish supper about half an hour before closing, was greeted & served by a friendly & efficient young man. We ordered medium haddock x2, large chips & scraps. & some sauce sachets.Everything was freshly cooked. The fish were generous fillets & perfectly cooked. Chips were decent & a lot of very naughty but extremely delicious crunchy scraps. Paid slightly under £20 for a very good meal which we enjoyed very much. I recommend this restaurant, there is a big eat in section if you fancy that as well as the takeaway section. Thanks very much!
